Word of the Day 5.27.15: WHITESPLAIN

Whitesplaining is when a white person patronizingly lectures a person of color on issues of racism.  It is demonstrated in the act of lecturing an incorrect perspective on race, but it can also be demonstrated in the assumption that a person of color does not already know what the lecturer knows about racism. Whitesplaining sets the parameters of the conversation in a way that centers the white experience and erases non-white experiences, and insinuates that the white perspective on race is the only valid perspective.
